The Green Bay Packers are now in the market for their next head coach after firing Mike McCarthy this past Sunday to end a 12-plus-year tenure with the franchise.

This has put the Packers squarely on the map as one of the most appealing openings in the league. Per the early betting odds for the vacancy, BetOnline.ag has pinned New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels as the favorite to land the job:

These odds for McDaniels come shortly after he voiced that he has a strong interest in getting another shot at becoming a head coach in the NFL. The Packers could be a fit for him if the team has a desire to bring him to lead the charge for Aaron Rodgers' last few seasons, and then potentially into the next era.

However, what makes this even more intriguing is that McDaniels had drawn significant interest around the league last offseason, which had seen him get into serious talks with the Indianapolis Colts for their open vacancy. In fact, he had agreed to take the position but decided last second to back out and stay with the Patriots. This alone should play some sort of factor into the equation, as there could be some skepticism about his long-term commitment to the team.

Keep in mind, the Patriots could play a role in trying to keep him aboard once again like they did last offseason when they held a meeting to convince him while also giving him a raise. There may be the opportunity for him to be the successor to head coach Bill Belichick if he were to stay with the franchise.

That said, Josh McDaniels could still get his shot at being a head coach once again, with the Packers being a potential landing spot.
