The Green Bay Packers have put themselves into the picture of looking for a new head coach after letting go of Mike McCarthy following 12-plus seasons at the helm.

This has thrown plenty of notable names into the picture as possible candidates for the position, which now includes Mike Shanahan being mentioned in the conversation. San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan chimed in on the talk surrounding his father, stating that he is retired while pointing out that it will take a lot for him to want to coach once again, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Shanahan has been out of the league since after the 2013 season when he last spent four years with the Washington Redskins as their head coach/executive vice president. In the years that have followed, his name has come up sporadically with various other open head coaching vacancies. He didn't truly entertain the possibility of coming back.

The 66-year-old is a proven head coach that has won a pair of Super Bowl titles with the Denver Broncos while holding a 178-144 career record, including leading his team to eight playoff appearances in 20 total seasons with the Broncos, Redskins, and Los Angeles Rams.

Shanahan is also one of the most respected coaches around the league given what he has accomplished throughout his career.

However, the fact that he has been out of the league for five years should factor into the equation. Shanahan is also now in his mid-60s, which would mean that age could quickly become a pressing thing over the next few years if the team went that route.

There are also other big names such as Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh, Oklahoma head coach Lincoln Riley, and New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels that have already been mentioned as potential candidates for the vacancy.
