The Green Bay Packers are coming off a disappointing season where they missed the playoffs for the first time in nine years. It has pushed the organization to reset things a bit to push the franchise back in the right direction.
The Packers have stuck with much of the same core roster on both sides of the ball with a few additions to the mix. According to Rob Demonvsky of ESPN, head coach Mike McCarthy has voiced that the team is going to go back to the basics to help shake things up a bit.
Aside from the fact former league MVP Aaron Rodgers was out of the lineup for nine games due to a broken collarbone, the Packers have struggled to break through. The Packers may have just been a win shy of a Super Bowl appearance back in 2016, but it has seen them take another step back this past season.
Green Bay has the foundation in place to be a playoff contender once again, but the improved roster around the league with the likes of the Philadelphia Eagles, Minnesota Vikings, Los Angeles Rams, New Orleans Saints, and Carolina Panthers could make it a tough hill to climb once again. The Packers have been a mainstay in the playoff picture, but things could quickly change in that regard if not handled properly.
Only time will tell if this new approach by McCarthy could help push the franchise back toward contending for a Super Bowl this upcoming season. If not, major changes could be on the horizon in Green Bay.
