During the 2019 NFL Draft, the Green Bay Packers selected Rashan Gary with the 12th overall pick. The Packers made it an emphasis to bulk up their pass-rushing unit, but was Gary the wrong pick?

According to Chris Trapasso of CBS Sports, Gary was named a bad fit in Green Bay in an article that the analyst did with this year's rookies. The CBS analyst explained why he believes the former Michigan Wolverine doesn't fit with Green Bay.

“This isn't a scheme-fit issue. It's a playing-time concern. Although Mike Pettine's 3-4 base system is constructed to deploy large, long defensive ends and smaller, quicker, more versatile rush linebackers on the edge, the Packers clearly have plans for hybrids on the outside of the front of their scheme, as evidenced by the signings of Za'Darius Smith and Preston Smith in free agency.”

Again, the Packers made it known that they fully intend to fix their issues on the defensive side of the football this offseason. Signing Za'Darius and Preston Smith was part of the plan to address those issues head-on.

Despite signing those guys, the Packers fully intend to utilize their first-round draft choice in their defense as much as possible. Brian Gutekunst, the Packers GM, has been very vocal on how the Packers plan on using Gary.

In today's NFL, you need a great quarterback and guys who can get after the quarterback. You can never have enough pass rushers on the team. Therefore, Gary can excel on the Packers defense as a rotational player at first, with hopes he continues to improve.
