After a dirty play that saw Carolina Panthers star pass-rusher Brian Burns end up hurt on Sunday, the young defender said all he wants is an apology…and he has yet to get one. He was injured on a “tackle” by New England Patriots rookie quarterback Mac Jones, as Jones attempted to bring Burns down by twisting his ankle.

Jones spoke after the game to the media and only offered an explanation that left a lot to be desired, telling the New York Post:

“I thought he had the ball. It was my job to try and make the tackle. That was pretty much it. Obviously, when you get up and see the ball, it’s actually down the field a little bit more.”

Burns, on the other hand, was less diplomatic with his response, only offering an insight into future matchups with the rookie signal-caller. He is certainly salivating at the prospects of a future matchup. One that is only guaranteed every four years while they play for the Patriots and Panthers.

Even Burns' teammate, veteran pass-rusher Haason Reddick had to chime in on the dirty play, calling Jones “completely dirty” for his actions on the field. Reddick has been around for a while and was appalled by what happened, he certainly has no tolerance for the cheap shot.

The NFL will now have to be the judge. What do they think? Was it a dirty play or was it just a part of football? Should Jones be fined and/or suspended? It is in the hands of the league office now. The Panthers would like some answers.
