In the last few days, there has been some added attention toward the health of Carolina Panthers star quarterback Cam Newton due to a persistent shoulder issue.

This has led to him already decide to not throw in practice this week to give it some necessary rest. According to David Newton of ESPN, the 29-year-old has once again gone this route for a second straight day by avoiding throwing the ball once again.

Panthers quarterback Cam Newton (shoulder) for the second straight day didn't throw during the media portion of practice. Typically he starts throwing on Thursday but not always. Guard Trai Turner (neck) returned to practice. Coach Ron Rivera was optimistic about Turner on Wednesday.

Although this has been a typical plan of action for the Newton over the last several weeks, it has drawn more attention given that he has taken multiple days off from throwing the ball. It is also something that he has addressed by stating that he has to learn to manage the pain and play through it. This hasn't reached a point where it could force him to miss any playing time on the field.

Newton has also added more fuel to the fire by stating that he cannot “deny or confirm” that he may need shoulder surgery after the season. This has only heightened the amount of scrutiny concerning the injury that may be more serious than he is letting on at this point. There was evidence on how much it is impacting him as he was able to make a hail mary heave on the last drive during Week 13's 24-17 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as his throw came up much shorter than expected.

This is a bit surprising given that he has a strong reputation for having one of the strongest arms in the league, and it is clearly not 100 percent at this point. It is a situation that the Panthers will continue to monitor moving forward this season.
