After his recent release, former Washington Football Team quarterback Dwayne Haskins may not get to sign with a team in time for the 2021 NFL season, per NFL Network‘s Ian Rapoport. However, it didn't discount the fact that many teams are still intrigued by him and one of those is the Carolina Panthers, which recently expressed their interest in signing Haskins at some point in the future.

Dwayne Haskins has let go by Washington after underperforming during his two-year stint with the team. Named as the starter prior to the 2020 NFL season, Haskins eventually lost his position after failing to be productive under center.

Haskins first lost the gig to Kyle Allen before Alex Smith, who is coming from a long lay-off along with a life-threatening leg injury that sidelined him for a couple of years, took over the starting duties. After getting relegated to the backseat, Haskins never gained momentum which led to his recent fall from grace.

On the other hand, the Panthers also failed to see continuity in the quarterback position after Cam Newton struggled to return to his dominant form before getting released by the team. They were able to snag former New Orleans Saints backup Teddy Bridgewater who was able to come out with respectable performances for the team but failed to lead them to the playoffs.

The Panthers might still continue their search for a new quarterback if they feel that a change is necessary to power them over the hump and end their postseason drought. Despite the poor track record of Haskins on the field, a change in scenery could ultimately do the trick for both sides moving forward.

Haskins was taken 15th overall by Washington at the 2019 NFL Draft.
