There were plenty of discrepancies throughout the course of the 2017 NFL season. Among the more comical was the Minnesota Vikings' concern over Carolina Panthers tight end Greg Olson's gig as a broadcaster.

Olson was on injured reserve while dealing with a foot injury when FOX pegged him to be part of the broadcast team in the Week 11 matchup between the Vikings and Los Angeles Rams. Minnesota complained that Olson could use that opportunity to spy for Carolina prior to their matchup later in the season.

However, according to Ryan Chell of WFNZ-AM, he has since joked that it did him no good after failing to register a single catch against the Vikings:

“Greg Olsen jokingly on using broadcasting to spy on opponents: “That really helped me during that Minnesota game being held to 0 catches, didn't it?!”
It has been a rough 2017 campaign for Olson up to that point after spending the majority of the year on injured reserve. Things did not get any easier after running into a formidable Vikings defense in just his second week back from injury. Olson was targeted just once and it was the only time he failed to record a catch the entire season. Fortunately, the Panthers were ultimately able to pull out a solid 31-24 victory to keep their playoff hopes alive.
Olson has since added that there is nothing he can see during a broadcast that he cannot recall happening while studying game film.

“I don't know if the Vikings still do but the way we think about it — nothing I'm going to see from that booth a million miles in the sky is any different than what we would see on a game film. I'm going to watch that Rams-Vikings game a hundred times between now and then, getting ready to play them. Whether I see it live from the same angle or see it on film, I don't think there's really too much advantage that I or the Panthers would have.”
