The Carolina Panthers eked out their second win of the season Sunday against the Buffalo Bills, 9-3, but there's a bad news for them to deal with right after the victory.

Panthers star tight end Greg Olsen has been placed on the injured reserve list following surgery to repair a broken right foot, according to ESPN's David Newton.

The Panthers placed Pro Bowl tight end Greg Olsen on injured reserve Tuesday.

Olsen broke the fifth metatarsal on his right foot during the second quarter of Sunday's 9-3 win against Buffalo. He underwent surgery on Monday.

Olsen suffered the injury in the first half of the contest, forcing him to exit the game. He eventually returned to the sidelines, though he’s already sporting a walking boot and crutches by that time.

Although he hasn’t figured that much in the Panthers’ passing game through two games this season, his absence is still a big blow to the Panthers, who are averaging just 174.5 passing yards per game. He’s caught only three passes for 28 receiving yards since Week 1.

At 32 years old, Olsen remains as one of the best in his positions in the league regardless of how he has performed of late. For the meantime, the Panthers will have to rely on the pair of Ed Dickson and Chris Manhertz to cover the glaring hole left by the 11-year veteran Olsen.

The Panthers are set to meet the New Orleans Saints at home next week, which will be the first time since 2008 that Olsen would miss a regular season game.
