The Carolina Panthers appear to be on the cups of a major rebuild after ushering in some significant changes to their coach ring staff. as a result, there is plenty of speculation regarding the future of quarterback Cam Newton.

Rumors have begun to swirl about the Panthers parting ways with Newton this offseason. Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic gives him less than a 50 percent chance to stay in Carolina.

Without knowing how healthy he will come out of his Lisfranc surgery and rehab, I hesitate to form a stronger take than 50-50 odds.

Meanwhile, Joe Person does not see much of a future for Newton with the
Panthers at just 15 percent.

I’ll say 15 percent, just to account for the wild card that is Tepper, who likes to zig when others are zagging.

The uncertain nature of Newton's foot injury makes it difficult for the Panthers to view him as a short-term option. Unfortunately, they have also failed to secure a long-term contingency plan with the underwhelming play of backup quarterbacks Kyle Allen and Will Grier.

Regardless, it would not make much sense to keep Newton around if the Panthers are opting to go with a youth movement. They may be better off getting whatever they can for him in return to help kickstart their current rebuild. Despite his recent struggles, the former MVP should still garner interest from a number of quarterback-hungry teams searching the market this offseason.

Although Cam Newton recently said he expects to be the starter for the Panthers during the 2020 NFL season, all signs are pointing to his potential departure.
