Recently, the Carolina Panthers veteran receiver sent out a viral tweet claiming he is pondering retirement. Additionally, he had some comments regarding Baker Mayfield as it's rumored his team is interested in trading for him. On Wednesday, Robbie Anderson finally cleared the air.

According to Jonathan M Alexander, Anderson claims he was “just thinking out loud” and “wasn't really that serious.” So, with that in mind, it sounds like he'll play for the Panthers in the 2022 season. However, his responses are not all that convincing.

Additionally, the veteran receiver clarifies the reason he criticized the idea of Baker Mayfield joining Carolina, per Jonathan M Alexander.  Robbie Anderson mentions he was simply “trying to defend his current quarterback.” That answer makes sense, as we've seen multiple players in the league go at-bat for their quarterback, despite rumors of the franchise seeking an upgrade.

Regardless of his comments, it feels like Carolina might have to monitor Anderson right now. It's never a good sign when a player openly ponders retirement in the middle of their career. Additionally, we've seen Robbie Anderson upset with Sam Darnold multiple times. One would think he'd be open to the idea of the Panthers acquiring Baker Mayfield.

At the end of the day, all eyes are on Carolina's veteran receiver. He's been rather vocal lately and all signs point toward him being unhappy with the club. This of course is speculation, but based on his recent actions the Panthers must be keeping tabs on Robbie Anderson. We'll see how it plays out though, as this franchise is still trying to rebuild after Cam Newton's fall.
