The Carolina Panthers' quarterback situation was anything but ideal this past season. Carolina started off hot out of the gate, led by former New York jets signal-caller Sam Darnold, who looked to be resurrecting his career after a much-needed change of scenery. However, the wheels fell off after a 3-0 start, and the team went 2-12 the rest of the way, utilizing as many as three signal-callers at once, including former league MVP Cam Newton and backup P.J. Walker. Needless to say, the Panthers were looking for some stability at the quarterback spot this offseason. They have been linked to nearly every possible available quarterback through free agency, trades and the draft, though signs have been pointing to Darnold returning as the starter. During an appearance on Bussin' with the Boys, a podcast featuring fellow NFL players Taylor Lewan and Will Compton, Darnold made a bold statement about himself, as reported by Pro Football Talk.

“It truly is like whatever happens happens, because at the end of the day, it’s out of my control, and I know that,” Darnold said on Bussin’ with the Boys, a podcast created by Titans tackle Taylor Lewan and free agent linebacker Will Compton. “I have enough security in myself to where I can be like, ‘I know I’m a good quarterback. I know I can be a good quarterback in this league. I’ve proved it.’ And I know there’s a team, if something happens, that would want me.”

Darnold didn't hold back, saying he “knows he's a good quarterback.” That's quite a bold statement coming from a quarterback who has thrown for exactly 54 touchdowns against 52 interceptions while completing just 59.8 percent of his passes in four seasons.

The former third overall pick has compiled a 17-32 record as a starter. It's good that Darnold believes in himself, though there's nothing that has occurred in his NFL career to suggest that teams would come calling if the Panthers opt to go elsewhere at quarterback.
