The New England Patriots likely became a popular team to use when Madden 21 released when Cam Newton signed with them earlier this offseason. However, fans may hesitate to use the Patriots once they see that Newton yielded a low rating in Madden 21.

While Madden ratings continue to be revealed, New England's entire roster had their ratings released. Of the players that drew a reaction, Newton received a 78 overall rating. In light of that, his 78 overall rating is the lowest rating he's gotten since his rookie season in 2011. There was one moment, back in 2016, that Newton was at a 94 overall rating.

Of course, Newton has dealt with multiple injuries in the last two seasons, missing 16 games in total. Provided that, it was expected that the All-Pro quarterback was going to see a decline in his rating. However, seeing him under an 80 overall rating was a bit surprising.

The last time we saw Newton healthy was in the first half of the 2018 season. Under offensive coordinator Norv Turner, Newton combined for 2,235 total yards, 19 total touchdowns, and four interceptions. His 2018 campaign would then unfortunately be derailed by a nagging shoulder injury.

Despite his previous injury concerns, Newton appears to be 100 percent healthy entering the 2020 season. On top of that, he seems motivated to prove all of his doubters wrong in the upcoming season.

Throughout the years, Newton has been one of the most dominant quarterbacks to utilize in Madden. But until he proves he can be a consistent dual-threat option at quarterback again, everyone will want to temper expectations on him in Madden 21.
