The Pittsburgh Steelers were unable to agree upon a new long-term extension with Pro Bowl running back Le'Veon Bell prior to Monday's deadline to work out new deals for players with the franchise tag for the 2018 NFL season. This has possibly opened the door for Bell to take his talents elsewhere next offseason.

There will more than likely be several teams lined up to acquire the 26-year-old via NFL free agency next March. With that in mind, Hall of Famer Eric Dickerson voiced during a recent interview with TMZ Sports that he believes that the New England Patriots would be an intriguing fit for Bell

“You got to go where the team wants you the most. For sure, the Steelers are the best for him because that offensive line knows him and he knows that offensive line. It's always best if you can stay with a team forever. I wish I could have stayed with the Rams but it didn't work out like that. Different time. Different era. If he doesn't, the Patriots would be a good team.”

Throughout the years, the Patriots have typically shied away from the one primary running back approach, but Bell is a different talent that has shown that can be a significant factor in the offense as both a runner and receiver out of the backfield. His addition would take New England offense to the next level with him paired with reigning league MVP Tom Brady.

However, it appears that the Patriots have their long-term plan in the backfield sorted out with the addition of former Georgia running back Sony Michel with the 31st overall pick in this year's draft. Meanwhile, they have brought back both James White and Rex Burkhead that should be each factor into the equation.

If the Patriots want to jump into the picture as a possible landing spot, the team should certainly draw plenty of mutual interest from Bell.
