New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady had an up-and-down regular season in 2018 to the point where some wondered if a serious decline had finally begun after a couple of rough outings during the second half of the year.

But Brady ultimately rebounded and led the Patriots to their sixth Super Bowl championship, once again proving his host of doubters wrong.

Now, in spite of Brady being 42 years old, the wily veteran is projected to be a top-five NFL MVP candidate for 2019 by ESPN NFL experts, as they have him ranked fourth behind Patrick Mahomes, Carson Wentz, and Drew Brees.

On the 2018 campaign overall, Brady threw for 4,355 yards, 29 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions while completing 65.8 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 97.7 en route to a Pro Bowl appearance.

Obviously, those are hardly bad numbers, but they were not exactly what we have come to expect from Brady, which only caused the “cliff” talk surrounding Brady to grow even louder.

While Brady is not the same player he was a few years back, it also seemed pretty clear that he was coasting throughout much of the second half of the season, as the Patriots essentially had the AFC East division locked up early on.

New England went on to win 11 games in spite of its “struggles,” capturing its 10th straight AFC East division crown and 15th in the last 16 years overall.

Entering 2019, the Pats are once again among the favorites to win the championship.

They will open up their season against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sept. 8.
