Last week, former New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady did what most people thought would almost never come; he announced his retirement from the NFL. A lot of pundits have since wondered whether or not Brady will remain retired. Well, one of his closest former Patriots teammate, Julian Edelman, shared his impressions.

Edelman spoke with NBC Sports Boston's podcast “Patriots Talk” with Tom Curran. He was asked if he was surprised Brady retired. Edelman replied “My answer for, ‘Were you surprised (that) he retired?’ was, ‘No, I’m not.’ And that’s the same answer if he comes back.”

The former New England wide receiver retired prior to the 2021 NFL season. He played 11 seasons in the pros, all of which were spent with the Patriots and Tom Brady. The two of them won three Super Bowl titles together.

Edelman talked about what it was like for him after retiring. He remarked on that itch players get a few months after retirement when it's normally time for your body to prepare for the next season.

“The first offseason when you retire, it’s different… You have a routine, you have a body clock that you’re so used to. I did it for 12 (years), he did it for 22. So like, it’ll hit him in some form or another. But it wouldn’t surprise me… I mean, it’d make for a hell of a documentary that I’m sure he would make.”

Tom Brady himself has also already left the door opened a crack. He was quoted as saying “never say never” during a recent interview. Until he gets past that first offseason itch, it remains to be seen if Brady can stay away.
