This time it's the New England Patriots who released a notable player from their team ahead of the final 53-man roster for the upcoming season. The latest Patriot to be cut was veteran running back Lamar Miller who was placed on the physically unable to perform list after signing a contract with the team.

He was recently activated on August 31, 2020, and had little time to showcase his wares in front of the Patriots' decision-makers.

ESPN Senior NFL insider Adam Schefter announced the move on Twitter:

Lamar Miller had strong ties to Miami as he grew up as a local in the area and played for the University of Miami in the collegiate ranks. He was eventually drafted by his hometown Miami Dolphins where he spent his first four seasons in the league from 2012 to 2015.

On March 9, 2016, Miller signed a four-year deal with the Houston Texans worth $26 million with $14 million guaranteed. He made his name known during his stint with the Texas-based team and made his only Pro Bowl appearance back in 2018. He missed the entire 2019 season when he had a torn ACL injury during the team's preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys last season.

He racked up a total of 5,864 rushing yards on 209 receptions and 32 scored rushing touchdowns through seven seasons played in the league.

Concerns over his recent injury and health condition played a big factor in his release from the Patriots. However, they still lacked weapons on the offensive side of the field and the depth became even more shallow with Miller being cut from the team.

We shall see in the coming days if the Patriots will participate in moves to address the gaping holes in their roster.
