The New England Patriots needed a wide receiver, so just before the Week 8 trade deadline, they swung a deal to acquire Mohamed Sanu from the Atlanta Falcons.

Sanu had a quiet first week with the Patriots, logging a couple of catches for 23 yards, but in his second game, he totaled 10 grabs for 81 yards and a touchdown.

It ended in New England's first loss of the season, but Sanu's impact was tangible, and fellow wide out Julian Edelman noted the rapport that Sanu has developed with Tom Brady since arriving:

“It’s hard,” Edelman said, per Doug Kyed of NESN.com. “You get it through consistency in practice, consistency in games, and you’re constantly earning it. It’s not something that you just get and then you keep. You’ve got to constantly keep on working on your craft and your chemistry and knowing what the coaches want, what Tom wants, knowing where you want to be, this, that, all of those things have so many variables. I think Mohamed is doing an unbelievable job.”

On the season overall, Sanu has caught 45 passes for 417 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

The 30-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Rutgers, was originally selected by the Cincinnati Bengals in the third round (83rd pick overall) of the 2012 NFL Draft.

Sanu spent his first four seasons with the Bengals, but he is most known for his three-and-a-half-year run with the Falcons when he developed into a very reliable complement to Julio Jones.

His best season in Atlanta came in 2018 when he hauled in 66 receptions for 838 yards and four scores.
