The New England Patriots made a lot of heads turn with their surprise trade for receiver Josh Gordon last season. Someone who has been in the NFL spotlight for many of the wrong reasons.

He's been a player that has struggled to find time on the field with his numerous suspensions and inability to grasp the severity of why he can't get on the field. But with the possibility of him being reinstated if he can find his way into the league again, the Patriots are more than willing to bring him back. Especially with what he brings.

He's someone that is still praised for his play on the field as a former All-Pro player. And even Ryan Clark calls him the “ultimate luxury.”

He does bring up that the Patriots won't need to put all of their plans into hoping that he comes back though. They already have a good amount of young receivers that are looking to contribute right away. Guys like first-rounder N'Keal Harry and undrafted rookie Jakobi Meyers can produce at a high level for Tom Brady with the 2019 regular season coming around the corner.

Although with the young guys already looking to be in place, Gordon provides an athletic element that continues to make him that much more of a luxury. He showed that with his play last season for the Patriots, as he caught 40 passes for 720 yards and three touchdowns last season. He flashed the abilities that make him such a great addition to the Patriots offense.

However, the Patriots won't be waiting hand and foot for him as he tries to get reinstated. He's a luxury, but nothing too much more than that.
