New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has already made some history with Super Bowl 53 not even seeing the second quarter yet. However, it is definitely not the history that most football fans would immediately think of as Brady has yet to throw a touchdown while notching one turnover, which came on the Patriots' opening drive of the game.
As a result of his early interception, Brady has officially become the third quarterback ever to throw an interception on their very first pass attempt. Brady has joined some incredibly talented company, however, with the future Hall of Fame signal-caller joining the likes of Jim Kelly and Ron Jaworski, who both made crucial mistakes on the biggest of stages.
Nonetheless, Brady could chalk up the early pick to “no harm, no foul” as the Los Angeles Rams were unable to capitalize on points upon receiving the football.
However, it is unlikely that Brady becomes flustered as a result of the first quarter mistake. Even so, Brady does realize that every Super Bowl appearance is different as Sunday's outing will mark his ninth such appearance and third straight.
“It’s hard to believe that this is my ninth time doing this. It wasn’t always like this,” Brady said on Thursday, via CBS Boston, gesturing to the assembled crowd of hundreds of media members and dozens of TV cameras pointed in his direction. “I remember it was a little bit smaller back in the day, the first time I did it.”
The Patriots and Rams remain knotted at zero with the second quarter rapidly approaching.
