Josh Gordon wasn't offered Tom Brady's No. 12 — despite having it tattooed to his back — when he was traded to the New England Patriots in 2018. Apparently, Mohamed Sanu was when he was traded to Foxborough earlier in the week.

On Friday, Sanu explained that Brady offered him the historic No. 12, jokingly or not, it happened. Via Evan Lazar of CLNS Media:

“He DM'd me when I first got traded. He said welcome and every like that, how he is excited. And then, he said if I wanted 12 I can get it. I was like ‘nah, you got that, I'll change to 14.'”

How great would it have been to see Brady make a number switch? After all, the only number he has worn in a career that is best described as G.O.A.T worthy is 12. One could expect his jersey sales to go up on the basis of it being different.

Michael Jordan had to switch his number to 45 when he came back, maybe Brady is trying to do a number-switch in the betterment of his brand? Or to follow the ghost in Chicago? Wait, that's what LeBron James is trying to do.

Nonetheless, the Sanu is switching to No. 14, which he has not worn in his NFL career. He wore No. 12 with both the Cincinnati Bengals and Atlanta Falcons. At Rutgers, he wore No. 6.

The Patriots traded a second-round selection to acquire Sanu from the Falcons. For the season, the eight-year veteran has 33 receptions for 313 yards and a touchdown. He should start immediately no matter the number on his back.
