Stefon Diggs could have been a member of the New England Patriots.

Prior to being traded to the Buffalo Bills, the Minnesota Vikings had shopped the star receiver on the trade market. The Patriots were actually one of the suitors for Diggs. However, the lack of certainty surrounding Tom Brady's future put a damper on New England's pursuit of the 26-year-old receiver.

Via Albert Breer of The MMQB:

“The Patriots were one suitor, but events of the day caused their interest to cool,” he wrote. “Franchising Joe Thuney put cap space at a premium for New England. And as (Tom) Brady’s departure started to look more likely, trading for a veteran receiver made less sense.”

Needless to say, Diggs would have been the vertical threat Brady was missing in New England last season. He posted 17.9 yards per reception last season, the fourth-best mark in the NFL. By comparison, Phillip Dorsett led the team with 13.7 yards per reception, while Julian Edelman posted just 11.2 yards per reception.

However, with Brady departing to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, there became no point in making a move for the star receiver. The Patriots have since moved on without Brady and appear to be in rebuilding mode.

The team's three top quarterbacks for next season are none other than Jarrett Stidham, Brian Hoyer and Cody Kessler. Not exactly a quarterback bunch that strikes fear in opposing defenses.

However, it's interesting to think what if Brady had stayed with the Patriots. We could have been talking about Brady and Diggs possibly leading the Pats to a seventh Super Bowl title.
