With the free agent market slowly drying up, some notable players are still unsigned and uncertain of where they will play next season. Pau Gasol has been one of those forgotten ones, but remains unsigned by any NBA team. While many believe he will agree on another deal with the San Antonio Spurs, nothing has materialized yet between both parties, and he is still an unrestricted free agent.

The 37-year-old Spanish international recently admitted, via Jeff Garcia of News 4 SA, that he is hoping they can strike a deal soon and that he can play at the highest level until his body will allow him to.

“I want to play the maximum number of seasons, as long as I feel good. I have played 16-years in the NBA and I hope to play some more, but I have to keep working and respect any injuries, as I have so far.”

Gasol then added that despite other Western Conference teams improving their rosters, he feels the Spurs are still one of the top teams and a contender for the title.

“All the teams in the West, especially the top teams, are getting much stronger to compete and try to beat the first level of teams, like the Spurs.”

The six-time All-Star had a solid season in his first year in San Antonio, with averages of 12.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.1 blocks per game. Now that he has a year of experience playing in the Spurs’ system, his potential re-signing with them will give the team an even better chance of contending for a title, especially with the recent addition of Rudy Gay to their fold.

If for any reason, both parties will not be able to come to terms on another contract, Gasol should still generate interest from other teams around the league, who are looking for a veteran big man, who can also serve as a mentor to their younger players.
