When New Orleans Pelicans point guard Jrue Holiday recorded a triple-double during tonight's 107-103 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers, the Pelicans made NBA history as just the second team to ever have four players record at least one triple-double during a season.

According to Pelicans PR on Twitter, they are the first team since the 1973-74 Los Angeles Lakers to accomplish this extremely rare feat as a group.

“The 2017-18 Pelicans are the 2nd team in NBA history that had 4 or more players produce a triple-double. The 1973-74 Lakers also had four players with at least one triple-double: Elmore Smith (6), Jerry West (1), Connie Hawkins (1), and Jim Price (1),” Pelicans PR said.

On the night, Holiday finished second on the team in scoring with 21 points on 9-of-17 shooting, 11 assists, 11 rebounds, and two blocked shots.

Holiday joins star center DeMarcus Cousins (three), point guard Rajon Rondo (two), and star power forward Anthony Davis (one) as the four Pelicans to achieve triple-doubles on the year.

In the second half, New Orleans was not able to stop the heroics of Blazers star point guard Damian Lillard, who went off for 20 of his game-high 41 points in the fourth quarter alone.

“Tonight we were in it until the end of the game,” Holiday said, per Scott Kushner of The Advocate. “Sometimes, that’s all you can ask for.”

Although this is a very cool statistic, the Pelicans were dealt a pretty big blow to their chances at the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference playoff race in a game that simply got away towards the end. As a team, they also shot a dismal 4-of-24 from behind the arc on the night at Smoothie King Center.
