The New Orleans Pelicans are currently sitting at the .500 mark holding the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

It is a position that All-Star forward Anthony Davis did not think the Pelicans would be at this point of the season while also voicing that his team could still make a major push over the second of the season, according to Jim Eichenhofer for Pelicans.com.

New Orleans has hovered around the .500 mark for much of the season and have split their last 10 games. Despite that sub-par start, they are in prime position to make a serious run to secure their first playoff appearance in three seasons.

A major part of that will be Davis being able to remain relatively healthy over that duration as he has had a well-documented past dealing with injuries. He has missed six games this season and is currently working his way through an ankle problem that forced him to sit out Wednesday game against the Memphis Grizzlies.

In the 34 games that he has played, Davis is currently putting up another highly productive campaign as he's averaging a double-double with 25.8 points and 10.8 rebounds along with 2.1 blocks per contest while shooting career highs with 56.1 percent from the field and 36.9 percent from beyond the arc. What will be equally as important is the production and dependency on fellow All-Star big man DeMarcus Cousins.

Cousins has been as productive if not greater this season averaging 25.9 points along with 12.4 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game. The two have proven that they can work efficiently alongside each other as both have each recorded at least 20 points and 10 rebounds in the same game 13 times, which no other duo this season has accomplished that on more than five occasions.

Ultimately, the Pelicans' fate this season lies in the hands of their dynamic big man duo as the team will go as far as they can take them.
