New Orleans Pelicans superstar Anthony Davis has been the talk of the town of late. Rumors pertaining to his alleged move away from New Orleans continue to pick up steam. Now, an anonymous NBA executive has stated that a trade deal is imminent, and that the Pelicans will ultimately have the final say on the future of their prized All-Star.

According to the unnamed exec, Davis recently hiring super agent Rich Paul (who also happens to represent LeBron James) is the clearest indication of the 25-year-old's desire to eventually sign for another team. The executive went on to explain that in his mind, Paul will be pivotal in Davis' transfer, but that the Pelicans will remain in the driver's seat when it comes to any potential negotiations.

“It's going to be up to [Pelicans general manager] Dell [Demps] to decide where Davis plays next,” an Eastern Conference executive said, via Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report. “Paul will get him traded, but it's going to be up to Demps to get the best deal.”

Davis is currently on the third year of his five-year, $126.9 million deal. However, what makes things very interesting is the fact that he has a player option on his fifth year. This means that if no extension is signed between now and the end of the 2019-20 season, Davis can walk away from the Pelicans and leave them with nothing to show for.

This is exactly why many believe that trading Davis now, while they still can, would be the best option for the New Orleans front office. Demps is no dummy, and if there's any man who can swing the tide in favor of the Pelicans, it's him.
