The New Orleans Pelicans will very likely face the Portland Trail Blazers today without their talisman forward Anthony Davis, according to William Guillory of The New Orleans Times Picayune.
Davis was taken off the floor using a wheelchair during the fourth quarter of Friday's 114-108 loss to the Utah Jazz with a strained left groin and is slated to undergo an MRI this morning as head coach Alvin Gentry told reporters post-game that he's “very unlikely” to play tonight.
The Brow finished the game with 19 points and 10 rebounds in 32 minutes.
New Orleans will have to rely on center DeMarcus Cousins to provide the bulk of the scoring, as the Pelicans have lost three games in a row, going back to the .500 mark at 11-11 for the season.
Dante Cunningham, who re-signed with the team this offseason will likely get the nod to start in Davis' absence, giving the Pelicans another deep threat in the starting lineup after shooting a career-high 39 percent from the field last season.
Things don't get easy for the Pelicans, as groin injuries can sometimes be a major setback due to them taking longer to heal than most other nicks and bruises. They're also slated to play the Golden State Warriors and the Denver Nuggets, two strong Western Conference opponents to start the next week.
