New Orleans Pelicans executive vice president of basketball operations David Griffin spoke about their hiring of Swin Cash as the team's Vice President of Basketball Operations and Team Development, noting that they're building something ‘very special.'

Per Jim Eichenhofer of Pelicans.com, Griffin shared that as soon as they had the opportunity to reach back to Cash — a three-time WNBA champion — they quickly jumped on the chance to recruit the legendary basketball figure.

“As soon as we had the opportunity (this spring) to reach back out to her to try to bring that to fruition, we did so. This is very much a concerted effort on our part, to continue to collect the best and brightest. A big part of our goal is to collect the best in class, as best we can, in every area… You’re starting to see us build something that can be very special here.

Cash, 39 years old, is known for her tenure with the Detroit Shock where she won two championships and with the Seattle Storm where she snagged one. In her 15-year WNBA career, she set several records and was heralded as one of the best basketball players. Because of this, Griffin knows that Cash has something valuable to offer to the table.

“She’s won championships at literally every level of basketball. Because of that, I know unequivocally that she knows that thought process and understands how to raise people to see that and feel that. It will continue to be a big driving factor in what we do.”

No matter how you look at it, signing Cash is a great move by Griffin and company. The 2019-2020 season should be something to look out for, especially for the Pelicans.
