New Orleans Pelicans veteran sharpshooter JJ Redick sustained a hamstring injury in the first half of his team's home matchup with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Redick, 35, is doubtful to return to action tonight, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Redick, a Duke alum and part-time podcaster, signed as a free agent with the Pelicans last offseason after a two-year stint with the then-burgeoning Philadelphia 76ers, appearing in back-to-back playoffs for the young team following their contention drought. The former 11th-overall pick from the 2006 NBA Draft inked a two-year contract with New Orleans over the summer worth $26.5 million in order to spruce up another young franchise's depth along with veteran leadership and postseason experience following new key front-office decision-maker David Griffin's inexperienced team featuring first overall pick Zion Williamson, No. 8 pick Jaxson Hayes, No. 17 selection Nickeil Alexander-Walker, along with fellow neophytes Lonzo Ball, Josh Hart, and Brandon Ingram.

Despite Redick's veteran tenure, the former despised Blue Devil has begun coming off the bench for head coach Alvin Gentry's team, differing to the younger players. Redick has been a reliable scorer off the pine since his reassignment on Jan. 22 against the Spurs. In 14 games since then, he has averaged nearly 14 points in 22.6 minutes per game, shooting 42.5 percent from downtown as Gentry and the Pelicans seek playoff aspirations much like the young Memphis Grizzlies, who selected Murray State point guard Ja Morant immediately after Williamson in the 2019 draft class, and are competing for the final spot in the Western Conference.

Redick's injury is a blow to the Pelicans' postseason goal, however, at the time it's unclear how serious the hamstring affliction is.
