The New Orleans Pelicans are being cautious with regards to the manner they are dealing with their prized center Anthony Davis’ injury.

Davis sustained a left abductor strain in the fourth quarter of last Friday’s 114-108 road loss to the Utah Jazz. He’s now missed the Pelicans’ last two games, including Monday’s high-profile matchup with the Golden State Warriors. He’s in danger of missing another game Wednesday against the Denver Nuggets at home, as Pelicans head coach Alvin Gentry said that they will “err on the side of caution” in deciding the return date for Davis, while speaking with reporters, per the team’s official Twitter account.

“We’re not going to stick him out there unless we're a hundred percent sure that he’s okay.”

While it was earlier reported that an MRI did not reveal any structural damage, which is a great news for Davis, the 12-12 Pelicans are not going to take any risk by playing the big man right away. The Pelicans have lost four of their last five games, but even with their recent struggles, they’re not going to make cursory decisions when it comes to the availability of Davis, who’s been known as much for his excellence on the court as his oft-injured body thus far in his career.

In the event that Davis would indeed be sat out for the Denver game, expect Dante Cunningham will likely get another start while Darius Miller and Omer Asik could also enjoy extra floor time.
