There is plenty for New Orleans Pelicans forward Zion Williamson to be excited about this offseason. It seems the transition to the NBA style of play is one of them.

Williamson has become accustomed to being the focal point of opposing defenses through high school and college. However, it's different in the NBA where all players perform at a high level night in and night out.

Zion is excited with the opportunity to elevate his game, and he believes he will thrive more in the NBA given that there will be a lot more open space for him. In case players double-team him, he can also take advantage of it and pass to the open man.

“(In NBA), everybody can shoot. You can’t really help (defensively) too much, otherwise it’s an open three. I love the spacing. It’s almost like a dream come true for me. Because every time I attack the basket, there is space,” Williamson told Pelicans reporter Jim Eichenhofer.

Williamson's comments are certainly understandable. His rare combination of size and athleticism has made him virtually impossible to guard without some kind of help defense. He has gotten used to teams collapsing on him every time he drives to the basket, however, the inconsistent shooting at the amateur level allows them to get away with it.

Fortunately, the Pelicans have given him good reason to be optimistic following their haul in the trade for big man Anthony Davis. He is now surrounded with quite the promising, young supporting cast in Lonzo Ball, Josh Hart and Brandon Ingram.

Regardless, it is the addition of shooting guard J.J. Redick in free agency that likely has Williamson excited for what is to come. Having one of the best shooters in the NBA should provide the rookie with a much-needed sense of security as he looks to find his footing in New Orleans moving forward.
