New Orleans Pelicans rookie and No. 1 overall pick Zion Williamson is “very excited” for his Summer League debut on Friday.

Williamson and the Pelicans will take on the New York Knicks, which means we get to see Zion go up against his former Duke teammate and close pal R.J. Barrett.

Zion Williamson averaged 22.6 points, 8.9 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game at Duke while shooting 68.0 percent from the field, 33.8 percent from beyond the arc and 64.0 percent from the free-throw line. The last time the Pelicans had the No. 1 overall pick in the draft prior to this year, they selected Anthony Davis, who is now on the Los Angeles Lakers.

It's a new era in New Orleans and Williamson is the main attraction. Pelicans fans can't wait to see the high-flying dunks and jaw dropping athleticism Williamson possesses. Some around the league believe New Orleans can make the playoffs in 2019-20. Pelicans vice president of basketball operations David Griffin acquired Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram and Josh Hart in the Davis trade and agreed to free agent deals with Derrick Favors and J.J. Redick.

But all eyes are going to be on Williamson, which at times is going to be unfair. The first bad game Zion has, the media is going to pounce on him.

That's just how this business works unfortunately.
