New Orleans Pelicans star Zion Williamson broke LeBron James and Luka Donic’s shared record of scoring 21 straight 20-point games on Tuesday versus the Los Angeles Lakers. Williamson had himself a game with 25 points, nine rebounds and five assists in 29 minutes.

During the post game interview, the Duke graduate told reporters that even if he’s not a fan of records and stats, this achievement was still great to hear about.

“Usually I give y'all a little short answer but I will try to be better tonight,” said Williamson, who’s normally pretty lowkey and calm when he does interviews. Zion Williamson’s stats are as consistent as they come, but they're clearly not the priority for New Orleans' thriving sophomore.

As much as he can shoot around 20 shots a night, Williamson prefers that he gets his teammates involved and hunts for the best shots for his teammates. The importance is playing through head coach Stan Van Gandy’s system and creating open shots for everyone involved.

Williamson’s teammates indeed showed up on Tuesday versus the Lakers. Brandom Ingram, a former Laker who was part of the Anthony Davis trade, scored 36 points along with four assists and three rebounds. Aside from Williamson and Ingram, the Pelicans got contributions from Kira Lewis Jr, Jaxson Hayes, Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Steve Adams in a blowout victory. The Pelicans are now 11th in the Western Conference with a two-game winning streak going on.

Williamson has led the Pelicans in two of the best games the team had this season versus the Utah Jazz and Los Angeles Clippers—two of the best top four seeds in the Western Conference. But they still need to wrangle a couple of winning stretches in order to make it to the play-in tournament or perhaps attain an outright playoff spot.

Williamson aims to keep his 21 point game streak alive as his Pelicans face the Denver Nuggets, Dallas Mavericks and and Boston Celtics in the next coming days.
