In what is some of the weirder news coming out of Happy Valley this weekend, Penn State coach James Franklin claims he is not comedian Keegan-Michael Key.

Wait… there's some context to why this is a thing. And no, it isn't as awful as you likely presumed it to be.

Notable New York radio gasbag Mike Francessa recently went on a rant. Not all that shocking. After all, that is what the guy does. However, he targeted the Penn State coach.

Francessa ripped  James Franklin, calling him a “horses’s ass,” for trying to prevent a field goal to preserve the Nittany Lions’ 56-0 blanking of Georgia State last week. For what it is worth, he wasn't alone in being upset with the Penn State coach.

To respond, ESPN didn’t talk to Franklin, but instead asked comedian (and Penn State graduate) Keegan-Michael Key to speak for him.

For what it is worth, Franklin is aware of Keegan-Michael Key. Here is the comedian doing some things the coach was obviously aware of.

Anyway, Franklin did decide to use a recent press conference to address the entire bit.

As far as the entire icing the kicker dilly, here was the coach's explanation:

“We had mostly our fourth-team defense, some threes, on the field,” Franklin said Tuesday, as transcribed by ESPN. “I’ve been doing this 23 years. We’ve never worked a fourth-team field goal block. I’m on the headset and our defensive coaches are talking about how those guys won’t even know how to line up. I’m shaking my head and the recommendation was to get the second team in there. I call the timeout and we are able to get the second team on the field, and from that point on, we’re going to go block the kick.”

And that is that… I guess?
