Bryce Harper began his career with the Philadelphia Phillies three years ago. The team signed the star slugger to a 13-year, $330 million contract in March of 2019. However, former Phillies outfielder Jayson Werth knew years prior that Harper was bound to play in Philadelphia.

Ahead of MLB Opening Day, Harper joined Barstool Philly's “First Time, Long Time Podcast.” He revealed a conversation he had with Werth  (also referred to by Harper as “J-Dub”) back in 2017, while the two were teammates on the Washington Nationals.

Barstool Philly tweeted the podcast clip Wednesday afternoon.

“I'd hit like three or four homers in a set or something and J-Dub would be like ‘Dude, you're gonna be a Phillie, bro, like it's not even a question,'” Harper said.

Werth, who Harper said had a “good sense of Philadelphia,” couldn't have been more accurate.

The Phillies signed the blockbuster contract with Harper in 2019 because of his explosiveness behind the plate and his reliability as an outfielder, and he has certainly lived up to Philadelphia's expectations. Last season, Harper won the National League MVP title, the Silver Slugger Award, and the National League Hank Aaron Award, along with the honor of All-MLB First Team.

Werth spent the most successful four years of his MLB career with the Phillies from 2007 to 2010. He was a 2009 All-Star and a huge part of the Phillies' World Series championship team in 2008. Some fans even find a resemblance between the two outfielders because of their scruffy appearance and style of gameplay.
