The Philadelphia Phillies slugger Bryce Harper is having another stellar season at the plate. However, things could be trending in the wrong direction. Harper was scratched from Wednesday's lineup citing a sore forearm. Normally, that would not raise too many eye brows, but for Harper particularly that's concerning.

Harper was recently diagnosed with a UCL (ulnar collateral ligament) tear in his right elbow. The injury took him off the field without the ability to throw for at least four weeks. However, the injury did not preclude him from still hitting.

The Phillies were set to finish their three-game series against the San Francisco Giants.

Harper initially injured his shoulder on a throw home from right field back on April 11th. An MRI after the game revealed a flexor strain. The pain did not subside much over the next month, which prompted the Phillies to send Harper back in for another MRI. This time, it revealed the UCL tear.

Harper was then forced to have a PRP (platelet-rich plasma) injection. However, it's been nearly two weeks and he is still feeling the affects of it. That could be a precursor to Philadelphia taking the precautionary measure of placing him on the IL.

The Phillies have struggled as a team this year, with a 21-29 record. That certainly cannot be put on the feet of the 2021 NL MVP. Harper is hitting a robust .303 with 10 home runs and 32 RBI this season.

If Harper is forced to miss time, Phillies manager Joe Girardi's job security could be in jeopardy.
