The Philadelphia Phillies head North on Tuesday to begin a quick two-game set with the Toronto Blue Jays. But, they will be without four players in total because of their vaccination status. Among them is star catcher JT Realmuto, who put Canada on blast for “telling him what to do.”

Take a listen to this rant:

“I'm a healthy 31-year-old professional athlete,” Realmuto said Monday, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer's Scott Lauber. “I'm not going to let Canada tell me what I do and don't put in my body.”

JT Realmuto will lose almost $260,000 because of his absence and claims it's “just a little bit of money” and it's “not worth it”. To understand the situation, Canada requires any individual that crosses the border to be vaccinated. Realmuto has yet to receive any vaccine for COVID-19 after he consulted with doctors and decided to not get it. The Phillies backstop revealed he had the virus twice already with “mild symptoms”.

To each their own, but you'd have to believe Philly is not pleased with his decision here. His comments about Canada were also extremely uncalled for and will surely infuriate Blue Jays fans in particular. Alec Bohm, Kyle Gibson, and Aaron Nola will join Realmuto on the restricted list.

No one is forcing him to get vaccinated, but when everyone else in the world is doing so, it's hard to understand why JT Realmuto believes he's above the rest. To each their own, I suppose. He'll be available again on Friday when the Phillies head to Miami to face the Marlins.
