Detroit Pistons point guard and former Chicago Bulls superstar Derrick Rose recently penned an emotional message for his hometown of Chicago on Instagram.

Rose, who grew up in one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in Chicago, says hate and violence are never the answer, wanting people from his hometown to understand what it really means to “show love.”

This is a very powerful message from Derrick Rose, who has admitted in the past that he could have been a drug dealer or part of a gang if his three older brothers didn't protect him as a youngster and make him focus on school and basketball.

Despite no longer playing for the Bulls, Rose will always have a lot of love for Chicago. After all, he's got the Windy City skyline tattooed on his hand and is a hometown hero after donating $1 million to After School Matters back in 2014 when he was still playing for the Bulls.

During the 2019-20 season with the Pistons, Rose averaged 18.1 points and 5.6 assists in 50 appearances. In the two games the Pistons played against the Bulls at the United Center, Rose received multiple standing ovations from the Chicago crowd and “MVP” chants. He will always be Chicago's favorite son.

Rose has one year left on his contract with the Pistons. Many Bulls fans are hoping the former MVP will come back home to finish his NBA career in Chicago.

Now 32 years old, Rose has career averages of 18.8 points and 5.6 assists with the Bulls, New York Knicks, Cleveland Cavaliers, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Pistons.
