Detroit Pistons guard Derrick Rose will have lighter pockets ahead of Wednesday's game versus the Boston Celtics than he did at the start of Tuesday. Per Shams Charania of The Athletic, the NBA has come down with a $25,000 fine for Rose after he threw a pen into the stands during overtime of his team's loss Monday versus the New Orleans Pelicans.

Frustration has been pent up for Detroit, as the Pistons have gotten off to a 14-27 start this season, leaving them five and a half games behind the Brooklyn Nets for the final playoff slot in the Eastern Conference. Rose has been one of the team's few bright spots, continuing his career resurrection this season by averaging 18 points per game primarily off the bench, putting himself in heavy consideration for the league's Sixth Man of the Year Award.

The league will not be suspending Rose for the incident, which leaves him eligible to play Wednesday against Boston as the Pistons look to get back on track after the loss to New Orleans. Rose inked a two-year, $15 million deal with Detroit back in July, but the fine remains hefty regardless of his yearly salary.

The $25,000 that Rose was docked by the NBA is tied for the third-highest fine levied by the league this year, alongside a bevy of others. Both Buddy Hield of the Sacramento Kings and Patrick Beverley of the Los Angeles Clippers have been hit with $25,000 fines this season after sending a ball into the stands, with the league apparently decreeing a pen to be on the same plane of punishment as a basketball. Only Rose's teammate, Markieff Morris, has been fined more this season, as he picked up a $35,000 fine for directing offensive language towards an official back on Oct. 28.
