Detroit Pistons head coach Dwane Casey is in a predicament when it comes to point guard Derrick Rose and his minutes.

Casey knows the Pistons have no shot to win games if Rose doesn't play a lot of minutes. However, the Pistons coach wants to reduce Rose's minutes moving forward so the former MVP's body doesn't break down:

“Derrick is a godsend,” Pistons coach Dwane Casey said, via The Detroit News. “He wants to play, which I love. His spirit, his heart, he wants to make plays and he wants to win. But we’ve got to help him. We’ve got to keep his usage rate down.

“I’ve got to cut his minutes and I hate to say that. He can’t keep playing the minutes he’s playing or he won’t be around much. He’ll be in a suit. We’ve got to make sure we take care of him.”

Derrick Rose is currently playing 25.4 minutes a night for the Pistons, who are only 14-26. The three-time All-Star is averaging 17.8 points, 2.3 rebounds and 5.8 assists in 34 games while shooting 49.0 percent from the field, 33.3 percent from beyond the arc and 88.4 percent from the free-throw line.

Detroit's offensive rating drops by 6.8 points when Rose is on the bench, per Basketball-Reference.com. Casey and the Pistons will have to find a way to stay afloat during games when Rose is resting, although some would say the team is better off trading Rose and embarking on a full rebuild assuming they move All-Star center Andre Drummond.
