Through his first three seasons in the league, Detriot Pistons forward Stanley Johnson has struggled to break through with the promising play that the franchise had hoped when taking him with the eighth overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft.

However, new head coach Dwane Casey has voiced much confidence that Johnson can finally put together a strong 2018-19 campaign to make steps toward fulfilling that potential, according to Rod Beard of The Detriot News.

Last season, Johnson struggled once again to take a step forward in his developed as he averaged 8.7 points on just 37.5 percent shooting from the field and 28.6 percent from beyond the arc along with 3.7 rebounds, and 1.6 assists in 27.4 minutes per contest. The brunt of his issues has come on the offensive end of the floor where he hasn't had any consistency in shooting ability as he's hitting just 37.0 percent from the field and 29.5 percent from distance.

Until he shows improvement in this aspect of his game, there will continue to be problems to break through offensively next campaign. He has shown to have the ability to make an impact defensively, but that hasn't translated to him possessing more confidence in being a factor on the other end of the floor. This is something that Casey will likely look to encourage him to take a bigger responsibility with his scoring to instill self-belief that he can be a major contributor.

Johnson is entering the final year of his four-year, $12.8 million rookie deal that does include a $5.3 million player option for the 2019-20 season. His play this upcoming campaign could play a huge part in determining if the team is willing to commit to him long-term as a primary piece to the puzzle. There is certainly plenty of motivating factors for Johnson to finally break through with his most productive season.
