Detroit Pistons head coach Dwane Casey says he's trying to keep point guard Derrick Rose at around 27-28 minutes per game.

Rose is off to a sizzling start to the season. Through the Pistons' first two games, the former MVP is averaging 22.5 points and 6.0 assists while shooting 63.0 percent from the field.

Rose played 26:35 in the win over the Indiana Pacers and 25:16 in the loss to the Atlanta Hawks.

The Hawks had no answer for Rose on Thursday, but because he's on a minutes restriction, the Pistons weren't able to muster up enough offense when Rose was on the bench and ended up losing to the Hawks by a final score of 117-100.

After the game, Casey talked about Rose's minutes and how he has to be careful with the Chicago native:

“I got to watch his minutes,” Casey said, via James Edwards III of The Athletic. “I try to keep his minutes around 27, 28. That limits us to what we can do with him. I know it seems like we’re getting him out pretty quick, but we have to monitor his minutes. If it’s tight or close, we may fudge the numbers a little bit, but for the most part, we’re going to keep it around that number each and every night.”

Pistons starting point guard Reggie Jackson has not had a good start to the season and he could end up missing some time due to a back injury which forced him to exit Thursday's game.

The Pistons' third-string point guard is Tim Frazier. Casey knows Rose is the best guard on the roster, but because of Rose's injury history, Casey knows he has to monitor D-Rose's workload since it's such a long regular season.
