The Detroit Pistons have traded guard James Ennis to the Memphis Grizzlies for power forward Brice Johnson and a second-round pick, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

The Pistons are fresh off trading for point guard Jameer Nelson in a swap with the Chicago Bulls, but have shifted their focus on acquiring more shooting and defense, opting to target Ennis to complement their new-look squad.

Ennis has proven to be a strong defender and a respectable shooter during his last couple of years with the Grizzlies, shooting 37.2 percent from distance last season and 35.7 percent this season — making him a viable threat to fill the void left by trading two of their best 3-point shooters in Tobias Harris and Avery Bradley, as a result of the Blake Griffin blockbuster trade.

Johnson had yet to play a game in his new uniform and will now forge a new home with the Grizzlies, who intend to grow with the help of young assets.

Memphis hasn't done very well in the NBA Draft, as the only players they've managed to keep past their rookie-scale contract have been the injured Mike Conley and center Marc Gasol.

Detroit will benefit immediately with a three-and-D player that is an instant plug into any rotation while the Grizzlies will have to develop their second-year player and groom him into a key asset moving forward.
