Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert is a big fan of fellow Frenchman and new Detroit Pistons addition Sekou Doumbouya.

The Pistons selected Doumbouya with the 15th overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft. However, Detroit didn't expect him to fall to them, as they have the 18-year-old forward high on their draft board.

Sure enough, Gobert was also surprised to see his countryman drop in the draft. Nonetheless, the Jazz big man said that the Pistons are lucky to have Doumbouya whom he called a “steal” given his “unbelievable talent” and rapid growth to an NBA-caliber player.

“I think he’s a steal,” Gobert told Eric Woodyard of the Deseret News. “He’s an unbelievable talent. He loves the game. I think he’s a competitor and he’s made so much progress in such a short time this year that I don’t see any limits for him. It’s going to be up to him to be whatever he wants to be. He’s got all the tools to be an amazing two-way player. I’m excited to see what he’s going to do.”

Doumbouya, who played professionally in France, is the youngest player in the draft. While it could be said that he's still raw, his professional experience makes him stand out among other prospects.

Before falling to 15th, most mock drafts had Doumbouya being selected in the top 10 — a testament to his value and skills.

The Pistons expect Doumbouya to contribute right away, so it's only a matter of time before fans see if Gobert is right in calling him a “steal” for Detroit.
