Detroit Pistons owner Tom Gores gave some insight as to what the franchise plans to do with star forward Blake Griffin, noting the team won't shut him down just yet.

Griffin has missed five of the team's last nine games, including the last two due to left knee soreness. The All-Star forward looks clearly hobbled and has yet to have a performance match what he was able to accomplish last season, yet Gores assures the team isn't thinking as far as shutting him down for the foreseeable future.

“No, we're not that far, and we're just gonna assess it in the next week or so,” Gores told Rod Beard of The Detroit News. “He's a trooper.”

“If Blake could play, he'd be playing. I think we just give him a few days of rest and see what happens.”

Griffin has hardly been himself this season, averaging a measly 15.5 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 3.3 assists — all down from last season.

He's had three single-digit scoring games in his last seven games, something that only happened four times throughout 75 games last season.

The Pistons have careened down lately, losing eight of their last nine games, including a recent three-game skid. Gores knows the team has been dealing with its share of injuries, but asserted the team needs to win regardless of the obstacles.

“The bottom line is our record is our record,” said Tom Gores. “And regardless of injuries, we've got to figure out how to win.”

Tom Gores will also assess potential changes as the team nears the All-Star break, which could include a massive shakeup, considering Andre Drummond's impending free agency this summer and a roster that has just proven unable to get the job done at 12-23.
