The NBA trade deadline saw a flurry of deals. Some of the trades were massive, others were minor. There was a lot of speculation that the rebuilding Detroit Pistons would move forward Jerami Grant.

Yet, the trade deadline came and went and Grant is apparently staying put. The Athletic's James Edwards III detailed what happened as the process played out.

The Pistons were reportedly taking a lot of calls all the way up to deadline. However, they ultimately did not get what they were looking for. Detroit, which clearly is in the midst of rebuilding in a deep Eastern Conference, wanted either at least two first round picks, or a player that could become a core player moving forward.

The Portland Trail Blazers were the most aggressive in trying to acquire Grant, but their offer was not enticing enough for general manager Troy Weaver to pull the trigger.

The Pistons reportedly are happy with Grant and his role with the team. Grant is also happy being in Detroit.

In recent years, the Pistons have shown discretion and patience while trying to formulate a roster that can compete. The 2021 NBA Draft first overall pick Cade Cunningham looks to be the real deal. He is averaging almost 16 points per game, to go along with over five rebounds and five assists per game. Not many rookies have produced numbers like that.

Detroit looks to have another top three pick or so in the 2022 NBA Draft. They will enter the offseason with over $30 million in cap space. For a team trying to construct a future, the Pistons look like they are in a good place.
