Get ready to add a mythical new Dragon-type to your collection in Pokémon GO! Swooping in from the Unova region, Druddigon is the latest Pokémon to be released in the game. The arrival of the new Dragonspiral Descent event marks the first time that trainers can encounter Druddigon in Pokémon GO as part of the Season of Heritage celebrations. This special event runs from December 7 to 12, 2021 only.
Druddigon first arrived in the Pokémon franchise through Black & White. Dubbed the Cave Pokémon, it dwells in Unova’s Dragonspiral Tower. Don’t worry, though! You won’t necessarily have to find a tower-like location to encounter Druddigon during your day-to-day adventure.
With the special event named as Dragonspiral Descent, it must mean that these Pokémon are emerging and now can be encountered in several locations. The official teaser from Niantic also alludes to the activation of “mysterious door located at a historical cave site”, disturbing Druddigon and beckoning the dragon out of hiding. Alongside it, trainers will also witness an “unprecedented surge of Fire, Electric, and Ice type Pokémon”. Supposedly, Professor Willow believes this rare appearance may be linked to the Legendaries Reshiram, Zekrom, and Kyurem.
Whether that means we will encounter more mystical Unova Pokémon is not yet confirmed, but it could mean more exciting releases in future events for Pokémon GO. After all, the available Pokémon in raid encounters have already shifted to include Reshiram and Zekrom as five-star raids, so we might potentially see Kyurem in the future, too! For now, though, players can enjoy trying to catch Druddigon through several ways.
How to get Druddigon in Pokémon GO
To trigger an encounter with Druddigon, players first have to complete a new Collection Challenge in Pokémon GO. However, you can only access this challenge for a limited time as part of the Dragonspiral Descent event. In addition to the Druddigon appearing, you will also receive 1,000 XP and 3,000 Stardust for your efforts.
But that’s not all! The new event has also shifted the specific Pokémon that you can encounter during raids. Druddigon will be available in three-star raids, but a bunch of other changes have also arrived in the game. Below you can find the full list of raid encounters in Pokémon GO for the duration of the event.
