West Ham United will be hosting Burnley in a potentially key match for both squads. With that said, it’s a good time to check out our Premier League odds series, which includes our West Ham-Burnley prediction and pick we have laid out below.

West Ham United is coming into this match with a ton of confidence. Not only are they having a good season domestically, but the London club is also doing amazing in Europe. They just won 4-1 on aggregate versus Lyon, beating the French club 3-0 away from their London Stadium. In the Premier League, they are sixth and they still have a chance to reach the top four and Champions League football. On the other hand, Burnley is holding on for dear life in the EPL. They are four points behind Everton and Burnley is going to need a miracle to stay up. Additionally, the club just fired manager Sean Dyche and their future is in jeopardy.

Why West Ham Could Win The Match

West Ham United is possibly having their best season in the EPL, since 1992. Their 2015-16 season with Dimitri Payet comes close, but this year should be better, for the simple fact that the club is also competitive in Europe. As mentioned above, they just beat Lyon away from home and are set to face Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League semifinals. Domestically, however, West Ham was actually a part of the top four for a part of the season. They are still close, as Tottenham is only six points away, but it is likely that they will not play in the Champions League unless they win the Europa League.

In terms of form, West Ham is actually not playing too well in the Premier League. Despite their positive results abroad, they have been hot and cold in the EPL in the last few weeks. It is worth mentioning that two of the three losses in their last six games were to Spurs and Liverpool, both teams in pursuit of the top four and the title, respectively. The issue is that their last loss was to Bretford, an ugly 2-0 defeat away from home. That could, together with the euphoria of the Europa League semis, get West Ham to try even harder to bounce back and remain in the top four battle.

West Ham has a ton of talent, great coaching by David Moyes, and a lot of momentum coming into this game. While there could be some problems with fitness, due to the travel and the game, it really should be West Ham’s game to lose.

Why Burnley Could Win The Match

Burnley is in a world of hurt right now. Not only are they in the relegation zone, but they also lost a lot by firing long-time coach Sean Dyche. To be completely open, Dyche’s brand of football was not always the most exciting or the one with the most flair, but it got Burnley where they needed to be. With Dyche at the helm, they even finish seventh in the 2017-18 season, playing Europa League football for the first time in club history. Last season, they finished 10th and the expectations were that they would be able to stay up. As things look now, Burnley is in deep trouble.

However, there is some positivity to think about. Even though they lost five out of their last six matches, that sole game was a win and a pivotal one. They stood their ground at home, beating Everton 3-2 with a Maxwel Cornet winner in the 85th minute. That is a huge result for a club that badly needs some optimism, especially considering Everton’s status as a relegation-battling team. It is entirely true that they followed up that result by falling to Norwich City, but Burnley can take the same approach to the Everton game in this one and try to get a positive result.

There could be a spark in the Burnley squad, as it often is the case, due to the change at the helm. Changing the manager, regardless of the fact that Dyche spent ten years as the coach, usually has a positive impact on the team. With their backs against the wall, Burnley might pull one off on the tired and fatigued West Ham.

Final West Ham-Burnley Prediction & Pick

This is actually tougher to predict than it looks. Common wisdom would say that West Ham is winning surely, due to the form and overall lack of quality in Burnley’s squad. Yet, the fact that they just played a match in France just a few days back could be a factor as well, together with the fact that Burnley really needs this win above everything else. This will be a match with a small number of goals and despite the fact that Burnley could get one on the Hammers, we are backing West Ham to beat Burnley at home.

Final West Ham-Burnley Pick: West Ham (-140)
