After pulling a banger from a pack or getting one from a box break, the next logical step would be to have it graded. That should be how it goes, but the folks over at PSA just announced something big that can throw a wrench into your grading plans.

Just today, PSA has suspended most of their services until July 1 to give them more time in clearing their massive backlog, which has surged to unmanageable levels. In a letter, PSA President Steve Sloan said that this is being done to properly serve customers who have submitted their cards to them prior to this move.

Sloan added that the services suspended include Value, Economy, Regular, and Express. As of now, PSA only offers Super Express and Walk-Through, which costs $300 and $600, respectively. This development comes right after the company increased its rates at the start of March.

While this comes as a shocker to card fans everywhere, PSA’s decision to suspend its grading services will benefit the industry down the road. This move allows the grading company to get rid of its multi-million card backlog, ensure every submission is graded accurately, and keep the industry trending in the right direction.

On the other hand, PSA’s suspension of nearly all of its services will be a good chance for other companies to step up. Those who need to get their grading fix can submit their cards to BGS, SGC, or new players in the industry, like HGA, CGC, and CSG, among others. Overall, card enthusiasts need to be patient as this will just be a short-term sacrifice for a long-term improvement in the years to come.
