After 16 long years, Double Fine Productions brings back Psychonauts. Raz, the psychic of romani descent is back and is now a newly recruited Psychonaut intern. An official sequel has long been demanded by Psychonauts fans and we’re finally getting our wish!
Psychonauts 2 Release Date: August 25, 2021
Psychonauts 2 finally has an official release date: August 25, 2021. The game was first announced in 2015 and has been delayed due to funding problems. Thanks to successful crowdfunding of $3.8 million, Double Fine could finally complete the game. They showed off their progress back in E3 2019 and planned to release the game in 2020. However, the devs delayed the release again in favor of spending more time fixing the game to make sure fans won’t be disappointed.
Psychonauts 2 will be picking up exactly from where we left off at the end of the first Psychonauts game. Raz has finally finished his training and joins Psychonauts to embark on missions with the super spies. However, the psychics are faced with a challenge as their leader hasn’t been the same since he was kidnapped and there could be potential double agents within the headquarters. Raz must now use his powers in order to stop the traitors from executing their secret plan which is to bring back Maligula, the villain from the first game, from the dead. Raz’s family history will be playing a crucial role in the story as he must learn more about it.
What’s new in Psychonauts 2?
The good news is that Psychonauts 2 will be picking up from where you left off, so all the accumulated powers from the previous game will be available to use off the bat in the sequel. Because of this, we can expect to gain new powers that Raz will probably be learning from the other special agents along the way. The only new ability that we are aware of is “Time Bubble” wherein Raz can slow down time to help complete the puzzles and beat enemies more easily.
The graphics will no doubt have a huge upgrade as the first game was released back in 2005 in the era of the PS2 and the original Xbox and the VR spin-off back in 2015. Despite the upgrade, the game will be sticking true to its original art style. That’s some nostalgia factor there, and we hope that Psychonauts 2 will give us the same satisfaction that Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart gave us just recently.
